O God, how I long to truly see
The nature of what’s You or me
To comprehend the day, the place
To know my role in time and space
To see my gifts and use them well
To see the point in all I tell
To purposefully pass an hour
Not watching for a nobler power
Nor looking back enquiringly
And pondering my utility
Did I a contribution make
To this day’s good, or did I take
More presents from the sum of life
Or carelessly create more strife
Were others’ needs my care at all
And did I heed their anguished fall
Should this my day’s attention turn
Or is their fate not my concern
What is the path to peaceful days
To hours danced in delirious haze
Where lies the undisputed way
How can I, surely, meet today?
