The world is becoming emoji-fied
With language resuming its simpler side
There’s good and there’s bad in this ‘evolution’
But, neat though they are, icons aren’t the solution
For instant expression, they brighten a page
But offer no outlet for impotent rage
A speedy adjunct to communication
Is no substitute for soul exploration
We’re foolish to think that these hieroglyphics
Can hope to encapsulate life’s specifics
They render relationships superficial
Ensuring no comment is prejudicial
For who could object to a cheeky grin
That sweetens the dart of a sly dig in?
I may wink and smile more, but that’s all you’ll see
Concealed by an avatar, who’s the real me?
