The Means of our Destruction

The means of our destruction is already there at birth

So how do we then ward it off through many days on earth?

At first we rise in ignorance to taste each day’s delights

And then we grow a carapace ‘gainst adolescent plights

Our love affairs can charm us or strip us of ourself

And then we raise a family, no time for ailing health

But as the years creep forward and as ageing takes its toll

The means of our destruction will assume position pole

The means of our salvation is inherent from our birth

And though we may not know it, we are treasures of great worth

Our quirky personalities get honed and shaped by life

Not always for the better, adverse influence is rife

But in us is a nugget of our perfect self and true

And nudging us a Saviour, there for us, if we just knew

And as the years creep forward choices open to our soul

To submerge in our destruction or emerge restored and whole
