Lake District

Plush quilted hills of sage and umber
Speckled with sheep and cows
Granite outcroppings in muted slumber
Firs on the frozen brows
Higgledy walls of stone dividing
Parcel from pastureland
Stream into icy river colliding
Gulleys by bridges spanned
Stark fingered trees anticipate springtime
Copses the haunt of deer
Lichen clad cottages resisting the wind’s rime
Bidding the sun to appear
