In a quiet garden where I rest my head
Immune to worldly chatter
I muse on life’s unending round
Of things that little matter

The filters in my heart contract
To sift the thoughts and words
To single out the kindnesses
Like love, and songs of birds

For if, in my reflective mood
The lovely things prevail
My day will fill with cheer and good
And on sure wings I’ll sail

A touch of sun and warmth and light
The scent of spring’s embrace
Will form a blanket round my heart
And soak me in God’s grace
